As ecotourism grows, many destinations are taking steps to attract travelers who are interested in eco-friendly living. You do not have to go far to find eco-friendly vacation spots. Some might be right in your own backyard. Here is a list of a few U.S. destinations that you might want to check out.

Alaska

Alaska is full of the most beautiful nature and is an infamous place to view the Northern Lights of Aurora Borealis. The best time for viewing the Northern Lights are mid-September and late April. You can also enjoy cruises run by big name cruise lines or smaller local cruise companies that will take you out to explore the many icebergs and glaciers in the region. In addition, there is plenty of wildlife in the national parks of Alaska.

California

California has several attractions that make it a great eco-friendly travel destination. In addition to the longest coastline in the United States, California is home to Yosemite National Park, The Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, The Redwood Forest, and many other nature-filled landmarks. While visiting these locations, you can see many different animals and great scenery which also make California a photographer’s and painter’s paradise.

Colorado

Approximately an hour and a half northwest of Denver is The Rocky Mountain National Park. This park is a great place for camping, trekking, and nature hikes. The Ute Trails, Never Summer Mountains, Longs Peak, Milner Pass, and Mesa Verde are some of the most popular destinations in this park. While there, you do not want to miss The Garden of the Gods State Park and its amazing rock formations. Garden of the Gods is approximately an hour’s drive south of Denver.

Montana

Montana is home to another popular eco-friendly destination, Yellowstone National Park. This park has more than 1,500 species of trees and plants, as well as a multitude of wildlife including bobcats, cougars, black bears, bison, badgers, lynx, coyotes, elks, and much more.
